IdichakkaThoran /Tender Green Jackfruit Stir Fry

 

Idichakka thoran

 

Ingredients

1. Tender jackfruit – 1 can

2. Garlic – 2

3. Green chillies – 4-5

4. Urad dal – 1 tsp

5. Curry leaves – 1 sprig

6. Coconut grated – 1/2 cup

7. Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp

8. Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp

9. Dry red chillies – 3-4

10. Oil – 2 tsp

11. Salt - to taste

1. Steam cook the tender jackfruit pieces with salt and turmeric.

2. Shred the cooked pieces.You can either use a motor and pestle or pulse it in a mixer or food processor.

3. Heat oil in a pan, splutter the mustard seeds, then add the urad dal. When it turns light brown add the dry red chillies and curry leaves.

4. Now add the shredded jackfruit.

5. Meanwhile crush the grated coconut, garlic, cumin seeds and the green chillies .

6. Add the crushed coconut mix to the jack fruit.  Mix well and sauté for another few minutes.

7. Check for salt  and remove from heat. Serve with rice.

    On a more serious note, we will be trying out some of these recipes over the weekend.

  2. I have always seen this jackfruit in can but never thought it will actually taste as good as the fresh ones you get back home. This thoran does look like as if its made from the fresh jackfruit. Now i dont have a reason not to try this out. Thanks girls :)

  3. This was the 1st recipe from your blog that I tried, 2nd being the chicken roast..:-) this came out great as well..:-) and thanks a ton ! The dish I made had a little sour taste, I gussed it is from the can and the syrup- Did yours have it too?

    Thanks a lot for trying out our recipes and for your feedback. This dish have never tasted sour when I made it. Probably its from the syrup like you guessed. I usually discard the syrup and wash the jackfruit pieces before using it. Try that way next time. Hope this helps.
